St Antony's

Catholic Primary School

God is at the heart of our school

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1,

It seems like the Summer holidays were a long time ago and now we are about to start  a new school year, with lots of new and exciting things ahead. We are going to be learning new things about ourselves, others and what we can do. We are going to try and always present the best version of ourselves but most importantly we are going to have fun.

From time we will put memories on our web page, so please stay tuned to the Year 1 adventure. Occasionally there will be information to offer parents help on how to enhance their children's learning, another good reason for staying in touch.

We are always available if you need a quick chat, but as usual please make an appointment through the office, or even drop us a line in your child's bag.

We look forward to learning with your children and working with you; below is a list of all the staff who will be supporting your children's learning this year.

Thank you

Year 1 First Day fun

Year 1 - Planting Daffodils 10.9.2018

Meet the teacher meeting - 13.9.2018 & 14.9.2018

First week in Year One - 14.9.2018.

What a week it has been! We have learnt so much this week; we have planted daffodils, been to Mass at St.Thomas of Canterbury, and  Fr. Michael was dancing. We have written in our new English books all by ourselves and learnt about Roald Dahl; it was his birthday this week so we had a little party on Friday to celebrate. We have learnt about place value and number ordering in maths and used the new laptops in our computing lesson. We also planted daffodils as we spoke about the different seasons, although they won't flower until the Spring it is good to plant them in the Autumn.

Finally on Friday afternoon Year One came together in worship to celebrate all the wonderful things we have achieved this week and to say thank you for all the adventures to come. And that was all in WEEK ONE!!

Well done Year 1 - 21.9.2018

Cannot believe we are almost half way through the first half term in Year 1, the fun continues. All week we have been practicing our writing in our new books and on Friday we all took part in the Big Write. We prepared by a Dough disco session to warm our hands up and then our teacher put on some music, Lois said " the music made her feel calm", and we began to write. The topic this week was Roald Dahl, and all about his life. Can you imagine anyone not liking chocolate cake? well he didn't!!

Anyway some notes for your diary, Parent meetings are 8th & 9th October , parents will need to book a time on line. Our Christmas performance will be on 7th December, and hopefully before half term we will be able to let you know of any costume requirements etc. This year we are very lucky to have Reception join us in this very special celebration.

First Week back - 29.10.18

Wow, where did that week go? So we started the week by making poppies from air dry clay, please keep an eye out for them next week as we hope to display them in and around school, they are to honour  all those who have died in war so that they can bring peace to the world.

We went to Mass on Thursday to celebrate the Feast of All Saints. The priest asked us lots of questions about the Saints we knew and what we thought were characteristics of a saint, we were able to answer all his questions because we had been talking about saints in class and at home. On Friday it was Curiosity Friday, we all were split into our chosen groups and we spent the morning either sewing, dancing, computing, acting and talking; we were working alongside our friends, and children in year 2 and year 3. It was a lot of fun and we all came back to class excited to share our morning with our  teachers. On Friday afternoon, we helped Year 5 practice the games they had created, hopefully we will remember them next week with our friends.

Parents, just a reminder to check your children's bags tonight for details of their costume for the performance on 7th December. Also to  confirm we  will be supported by the Reception, Little Stars Choir. As you are aware we are very limited on space so we will be showing 2 performances to parents, a detailed parent-mail is on it's way about timings and where to collect your tickets.

But as always if you have any questions of concerns please ask us.
